Domain name price in India (2026): .in and .com costs

Watch out for the renewal trap
Many registrars advertise a .in for ₹1 or ₹99 in the first year. GoDaddy, for example, has offered .in for about $1 (≈₹90) to new customers, then renews at about $13 (≈₹1,100) a year. Over five years, the cheapest-looking deal can cost the most.
| 5-year cost example | Year 1 | Years 2–5 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheap first year, high renewal | ₹99 | ₹1,100 × 4 | ₹4,499 |
| Same price every year | ₹600 | ₹600 × 4 | ₹3,000 |
Extra costs to know about
- GST: Indian registrars add 18% on top.
- Privacy: some registrars charge for it on .com; many can't offer it on .in.
- Premium names: short or dictionary names can be listed by the registry at hundreds or thousands of rupees.
- Late renewal: restoring an expired domain from "redemption" can cost several thousand rupees.
- Add-ons: email, hosting and "SEO" packages are optional. Buy them only if you need them.
How to pay the least
- Compare renewal prices, not just the first year.
- Register for 2–3 years when the price is good.
- Keep the domain at one registrar with auto-renew on.
- Skip bundles you don't need.
Questions people ask
What is the cheapest .in domain price?
First-year promotions can be ₹1–₹99. Without promotions, .in renewals start around ₹550–₹600 a year at low-cost registrars, before GST.
Is GST charged on domain names?
Yes. Indian registrars charge 18% GST on domain registration and renewal.
Why is a .com more expensive than .in?
Registry fees differ. Verisign's .com wholesale price is higher than NIXI's .in fee, and registrars pass that on.
